{"id":3399,"date":"2021-05-21T12:25:57","date_gmt":"2021-05-21T16:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.timeoff.org\/rick\/?p=3399"},"modified":"2021-06-05T10:19:46","modified_gmt":"2021-06-05T14:19:46","slug":"microsoft-internet-explorer-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.timeoff.org\/rick\/2021\/05\/21\/microsoft-internet-explorer-in-the-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Internet Explorer in the news"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Someone pointed me at an article appearing on ZD-Net&#8217;s Extreme Tech site &#8211; <em>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.extremetech.com\/internet\/323037-microsoft-will-put-internet-explorer-out-of-its-misery-next-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Microsoft Will Put Internet Explorer Out of Its Misery Next Year<\/a>&#8220;<\/em> &#8211; which states that IE will be sunset for good June 15, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article is focused on the aging browser itself but then these sentence appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>It&#8217;s clear Internet Explorer doesn&#8217;t have a place in Microsoft&#8217;s online efforts with its clunky old rendering engine. After the shutdown, Internet Explorer will no longer be available on any consumer version of Windows 10.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that &#8220;clunky old rendering engine&#8221; what Eudora&#8217;s using when Microsoft&#8217;s viewer is selected for viewing messages? As it happens, the answer is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>yes<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what will happen in 2022? Only Microsoft knows for sure. I suppose it comes down to whether or not Microsoft will actively remove the files that make up the rendering engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I raised the topic this morning on the Eudora for Windows list and some discussion is beginning to take shape.
