We drink a lot of Snapple. More accurately, Pam and Damian drink a lot of Snapple. I remember when Dr. Pepper bought ’em some years back and I remember the controversy when some of the ingredients changed… Cost-cutting, like everything else.
But what prompted this entry was the label on a “limited edition” Papaya-Mango bottle the other day:
Which leads to the question, aren’t all flavors natural? What constitutes an unnatural flavor?
No, there are artificial flavors; read other labels. Also artificial colors.
Now, I always thought an artificial judged, well, art. You know, paintings and sculptures and such like. And I thought that “Soylent Green” was fiction. But apparently, when an artificial dies or has otherwise outlived his or her usefulness, they’re run through the nearest Soylent Green factory (or another color Soylent), and are converted to artificial flavors and colors.
Conversely, anyone else who’s been run through a Soylent plant is converted to a natural flavors or color.
Incidentally, I used to live close enough to the International Flavors and Fragrances plant in Union Beach on 36 at Rose Lane, so I’m not just talking through my hat — I’ve smelled the results pervading the neighborhood!
Any questions? :-)
